Dark Energy Pre-Workout Review

Dark Energy is no longer being manufactured.

With that said, let’s get on with the review!

Dark Energy Pre-Workout At a Glance

Dark Energy Pre-Workout is one of the strongest and most popular supplement products on the market from a company called Magnitude Life Sciences. It’s said to massively enhance your workout performance by ramping up your energy levels.

With all of its purported benefits, Dark Energy is a rather controversial pre-workout supplement, mainly because it contains DMHA and DMAA — heavy stimulants that are essentially banned by the FDA.

Here are our thoughts on Dark Energy Pre-Workout if you’re looking for a quick summary.

Pros:

  • Gives you a strong energy kick
  • Improves athletic performance;
  • Provides a mood elevation effect.
  • Helps you to stay focused.

Cons:

  • Includes prohibited ingredients such as DMAA and DMHA;
  • Has a massive dose of caffeine which, combined with other stimulants, can give you potential side effects;
  • Using Dark Energy Pre-Workout leads to a crash when it wears off.

Curious to learn more? Let’s get down to the nitty-gritty and take a closer look at Dark Energy to see if it really lives up to the hype!

About Dark Energy Pre-Workout

You wouldn’t be too far off calling Dark Energy Pre Workout a grey market product. Even its manufacturers don’t call it a dietary supplement. Magnitude Life Sciences put on its label “Research Product — Not For Human Consumption”.

Okay! Obviously, their marketing revolves all around making it appear aggressive and strong.

If you’re curious about the company itself, we didn’t find any official information.

Their website is down for upgrades while their social media pages aren’t being maintained (the last post dates back to the 17th of January).

As far as Dark Energy Pre-Workout goes, one bottle contains 30 servings and costs between $30 to $70 depending on where you buy it. Officially, it’s not sold anymore but you can still buy it on eBay. It comes in different colored bottles with different flavors including orange, purple, rocket, blast, and tropical.

Dark Energy Pre Workout is made specifically for men who desire to get the most from their training. It’s a supplement that is believed to give you a good energy boost and a solid workout while uplifting your mood.

And despite its aggressiveness (or actually because of it), it really does its job well!

But there’s a catch, folks…

Here’s the main issue. Dark Energy contains DMAA, which is a very potent synthetic amphetamine that is unsafe and potentially dangerous. If you think you can handle it, read on!

Magnitude Life Sciences combined DMAA with DMHA — which is similar to DMAA in effects — and caffeine. Such a combination is a bomb that can cause you more harm than good while being potentially dangerous for your health.

What about the quality of this product, you ask? Since Dark Energy is produced in an underground manufacturing facility that isn’t under the control of FDA inspection, we can’t say we’re convinced in its safety!

How to use Dark Energy Pre-Workout

Even though there are no directions on the label, you can go with one full scoop mixed with a drink, which is the standard serving size.

From our own experience and based on other reviews online, Dark Energy peaks after 30 minutes or so.

If you’re sensitive to stimulants, you may consider starting with half a scoop, or even just 1/3 to test the waters.

Dark Energy Pre-Workout Ingredients

Dark Energy Pre-Workout Ingredients

While there are a lot of aggressive pre-workout supplements on the market, Dark Energy is in a league of its own. It relies too much on heavy stimulants. Just take a look at its ingredient label, and you’ll see what we mean.

Dark Energy consists of 8 ingredients:

  • Citrulline Malate 6,000 mg
  • Beta-Alanine 3,200 mg
  • L-Taurine 2,000 mg
  • DMAE (dimethylaminoethanol) 750mg
  • DMHA (2-aminoisoheptane) 200mg
  • Caffeine 400mg
  • DMAA (1,3-dimethylamylamine) 60 mg
  • GABA (Gamma-Aminobutryic Acid) 50 mg

Here’s a closer look if you want to geek out;

Citrulline Malate

Citrulline Malate is an amino acid used for improving athletic performance. However, unlike some amino acids, it is not used to make protein. There is 6,000 mg in Dark Energy, which is basically the standard (and safe!) dose for bodybuilders.

Beta-Alanine

Beta-Alanine is a common pre-workout supplement that improves performance by increasing exercise capacity and decreasing muscle fatigue. Dark Energy used 3,200 mg, which is also a safe and common dose in nutritional pre-workout supplements.

L-Taurine

L-Taurine is a type of amino acid that protects muscles from cell damage and oxidative stress. A study showed that participants who took L-Taurine experienced less muscle damage and soreness in their weightlifting routine. We have also found that a healthy daily dose of Taurine is 1,500 mg while Dark energy used 2,000 mg, which may or may not be effective… and safe!

DMAE

DMAE is a common dietary supplement believed to boost brain health and mood. Unfortunately, we didn’t find enough scientific evidence to establish a safe or effective dose of DMAE. It all may depend on your age, gender, and medical history.

DHMA

DMHA – well, it’s a popular pre-workout ingredient that acts similarly to DMAA, which says a thing or two since DMAA itself is banned by the FDA. It’s believed to boost your workout performance, burn fat, and even increase weight loss. You can still find DMHA in few supplements, yet its dosage is at 50 to 150mg while Dark Energy uses 200mg, which is definitely crazy!

Caffeine

Even though caffeine seems to be a safe ingredient (pretty much everyone drinks coffee or tea), Dark Energy’s caffeine content is 400mg per serving, which is about twice as much as your regular supplement. To make it more clear, you have to drink 5 cans of Red Bull at once to get this dose!

DMAA

“The icing on the cake” is DMAA — the main ingredient that makes Dark Energy so popular and so controversial at the same time. DMAA is a highly potent chemical from the amphetamine group. It is banned and can’t be put in supplements.

This makes us wonder where the company makes its supplement. It is believed to aid you in reducing body fat by supposedly stimulating thermogenesis. However, we haven’t found any studies proving this.

GABA

GABA is a neurotransmitter that calms your mood and reduces stress. It’s a good ingredient that can calm you down, which is usually a bad thing for a pre-workout but here it’s a good thing, since there’s so much harsh stimulant activity.

Customer Reviews

Since Dark Energy Pre-Workout isn’t being sold on Amazon, and the company’s main website isn’t working, it was quite a task to find trustworthy reviews! There aren’t many Reddit reviews of Dark Energy Pre-Workout at the moment either.

One testimonial said; “Even though I’m a massive fan of high stimulant products, the combination of the two potent compounds [DMAA and DMHA] caused a short rush in energy, followed by fatigue after just 30 minutes of using it.”

Another customer wrote, “While Dark Energy Pre-Workout does ramp up energy levels, it’s not exactly the most energy-boosting pre-workout on the market. From my experience, I can safely say that it boosts energy and improves your endurance when working out. But, it doesn’t do much to maximize results or increase muscle mass and strength.”

Since it’s packed with too many stimulants, a lot of customers complained it gives you a short rush that is followed by a hard crash.

Does Dark Energy Pre-Workout Have Side Effects?

Given the fact that Dark Energy Pre-Workout contains prohibited ingredients and a massive dose of caffeine, you may potentially experience these side effects:

  • insomnia
  • nausea
  • increased heart rate
  • drowsiness
  • headaches
  • anxiety
  • jitteriness

According to the FDA, “DMAA, especially in combination with other stimulant ingredients such as caffeine, can be a health risk to consumers. Taking DMAA can raise blood pressure and lead to cardiovascular problems ranging from shortness of breath and tightening in the chest to a heart attack.”

As we mentioned before, it’s always better to consult your physician prior to using Dark Energy Pre-Workout.

Final Thoughts

So, should you buy Dark Energy Pre-Workout? Of course, it’s ultimately your call – if you’d like to try a strong pre-workout supplement that resorted to using both DMAA and DMHA, and a whopping 400mg of caffeine per serving.

If you have never used high doses of caffeine or DMAA before, it’s best to think twice before experimenting with your body!

When it comes to its benefits, Dark Energy really does work. We’ll give it that. It will boost your energy while providing relentless focus and improved endurance. But we’re aware of where this comes from and the crash that follows afterwards.

There are many other pre-workout supplements with safe and legal ingredients that can also amp up your workouts and boost your energy levels. Moreover, Dark Energy is no longer being manufactured, and it looks like FDA will take all the necessary steps to remove products like this one for good.
