Shred JYM Review – Does This Fat Burner Work?

Welcome to our Shred JYM Fat burner review! Here’s a short product review summary, followed by a more detailed analysis from our team!

[SHRED JYM SUMMARY] Shred JYM is a love-it-or-hate-it kind of fat burner. It’s got plenty of caffeine and other stimulants that will give you a surge of energy. The high dosages are the main problem here. If you’re not used to aggressive fat burners, you may get unwanted side effects – such as nausea, irritability, energy crashes, rapid heartbeat and anxiety. The serving schedule is also skewed with only 1 daily dose, which leaves a big gap in its effects. Shred JYM is also missing some core ingredients, including an appetite suppressant. If you’re looking to have more energy for your workouts and are okay with harsh stimulants, this will work decently. But in terms of fat burning specifically, there are better options available.

Shred JYM Review – The Basics

Shred JYM is a fat burner supplement produced by none other than Jim Stoppani, the famous fitness guru and social media personality. It comes in huge bottles with 240 vegetarian capsules.

We’ve got our hands on these fat burner pills and decided to see if they live up to the marketing hype.

Shred JYm is particularly popular amongst bodybuilders, as it contains high amounts of stimulants to energize your workouts.

Reportedly, Shred JYM works in three stages: 1. it releases fat from your body stores, 2. gets the fat to the right place (your mitochondria cells), and then helps promote fat burning by using it for the production of ATP levels in your body for energy.

Sounds great, but does it really work?

I and the rest of the team look past the marketing and fancy claims to see what the research says about its ingredients.

Ingredients

The latest new Shred JYM formula contains the following ingredients:

  • Acetyl L-Carnitine (1,500mg)
  • L-Tyrosine (500mg)
  • Green Tea Leaf Extract (50% EGCG) (500mg)
  • Caffeine Anhydrous (200mg)
  • Capsimax Cayenne Pepper Fruit Extract (50mg)
  • Synephrine (Bitter Orange, Citrus aurantium) (20mg)

One thing I like about this formula is that you can clearly see everything on the label. This, in turn, allows us to check the ingredient doses for safety and effectiveness.

So that’s good. One thing that’s NOT that good is that it contains a few iffy ingredients, such as Synephrine, which have been linked to negative side effects. It’s also banned by some institutions.

Another issue is that with 6 capsules per serving, we expected more ingredients in Shred JYM formula. While it has a few of our favorite fat burners and thermogenics, Shred JYM is missing many core ingredients, including an appetite suppressant.

Here’s a closer breakdown of the formula to see what these ingredients can, and can’t do.

Acetyl L-Carnitine

Acetyl L-Carnitine is an excellent ingredient for nootropics (brain supplements). Why? Because, it easily crosses through your blood-brain barrier, after which it helps boost signaling beteween neurons, as well as energy production in the neuron’s mitochondria.

This is good. However, ALCAR here has been used mainly for weight loss. So can it help you with that? It can to an extent, but it’s not very strong!

A plain old L-Carnitine would be a better option, this is what most bodybuilders and athletes use. Using plain L-Carnitine without its ‘acetyl’ part means less of it will end up in your brain and more in your fat deposits around the body where it will help turn the stored fat into energy.

L-Tyrosine

Tyrosine is an another great cognitive booster. It helps to replenish your dopamine stores which tend to get depleted when you’re under stress or any kind of pressure – be it physical or mental.

Low dopamine can manifest as a lack of focus, irritability, and low motivation to finish your workout. Therefore, supplementing L-Tyrosine can boost your mental willpower to see your training sessions through.

However, only a small amount of L-Tyrosine is enough for this effect – around 150mg per day. This is the safest dose for long-term supplementation and what the best nootropic supplements use.

I don’t like the big 500mg I see on the label. That’s too much Tyrosine for long-term supplementation in my opinion – it can suppress your serotonin production as dopamine and serotonin are closely related!

Green Tea Leaf Extract

Now this is an excellent choice! Green tea is one of the best natural thermogenics, period. It helps to kickstart your metabolism while also providing healthy catechins – antioxidants that boost your cell protection and increase resistance to inflammation. It’s got 50% EGCG too which is fantastic.

Caffeine Anhydrous

Caffeine is probably the most common ingredient in all fat burners. That’s because it can not only help bump up your energy levels, it also increases fat burning capacity of your body – triggering an increase in caloric expenditure.

However, caffeine is one of those ingredients you’ll either love or hate. Because its a stimulant, it acts on your central nervous system and can lead to side effects like anxiety, jitters, nausea, and energy crashes. It all depends on your tolerance to the drug, as well as the dosage.

Dosing caffeine is an art of itself – some people don’t feel much below 200mg, while others get side effects even from just 100mg or lower. At 200mg per serving, Shred JYM is teetering between being too much and just perfect!

Capsimax Cayenne Pepper Fruit Extract

Capsimax is a patented form of cayenne pepper extract. Cayenne peppers are known for their pungent aroma and spicy flavor. They add heat to your food, but also to your internal bodily processes.

This ‘heating up’ of the body results in your core temperature rising. Your body notices this and then activates the ‘cooling’ effect in order to bring the temperature back to normal. This process burns a few extra calories per hour as your metabolism has to work harder throughout.

Synephrine

This is the worst ingredient in Shred JYM. Synephrine is a hardcore stimulant similar to the banned substance Ephedrine. It can aggravate symptoms of anxiety, high blood pressure, and heart palpitations. Even on its own, this can be a dangerous ingredient, and it known for causing some serious health issues in certain individuals.

But combined with caffeine and other stimulants in Shred JYM, Synephrine is that much worse. Sure, it does increase your total energy expenditure which will help you burn more calories. However, it’s so aggressive we don’t recommend it for anyone unless you’re aware what you’re getting into! It’s best to check with your MD prior to taking Synephrine just to be sure.

Anything Missing?

Although it’s got a few good ingredients, Shred JYM could fare much better if it added an appetite suppressant, a blood sugar regulator, and a few other core ingredients. That would make it target fat loss from all angles, leading to better and faster results.

Key ingredients missing from Shred JYM:

  • Glucomannan – swells in your stomach, resulting in feelings of fullness and low appetite
  • Chromium – a trace element that helps stabilize your blood sugars, reducing food cravings and also stopping weight gain
  • B vitamins – crucial for energy metabolism and the conversion of carbs, fats, and proteins into usable energy
  • Piperine – black pepper extract is often used in the best fat burner supplements to enhance the absorption and efficacy of other ingredients.

How to Use Shred JYM (Dosage Instructions)

Shred JYM directions are to take 6 capsules once per day, with or without food. So this means you can take Shred JYM even while doing intermittent fasting (IF)! That said, you may find it that you tolerate better the aggressive effects of some of its stimulants when you take it with a fatty meal. Don’t take Shred JYM within 6 hours of going to sleep as it will give you insomnia!

Shred JYM’s dosage of 6 capsules it huge, but that’s not the issue if you ask me. The bigger problem in my eyes at least, is the poor serving schedule. Taking all 6 capsules at once will boost your metabolism for a short while, and then what? You’re out of that fat burning mode.

If you look up the top-rated fat burners, you’ll see they all have 3 or 4 daily servings. Why is this the case? Because, taking a fat burner multiple times per day maintains the effects and keeps you in a fat burning state nicely and steadily.

Shred JYM as a Pre Workout

You may wonder, can you take Shred JYM as a pre workout? The answer is yes! Since it contains high levels of stimulants, including caffeine and Synephrine, it will give you plenty of energy to smash your workouts.

The only problem is if you don’t tolerate aggressive stimulants like these; in which case you’ll feel restless and anxious, potentially even nauseous.

Shred JYM for Females – Can Women Take It?

There are no gender-specific fat burners. There are only fat burners with ingredients that work, and ingredients that don’t work. Shred JYM can be taken by females, however, please speak with your doctor first if you have any kind of condition! This is especially important with Shred JYM which contains a potentially dangerous combination of stimulants.

Side Effects

As we’ve repeated, the caffeine+synephrine combo can lead to some nasty side effects. If you don’t tolerate these Shred JYM ingredients well, you may experience:

  • Nausea
  • Headaches
  • Heart palpitations
  • Anxiety
  • High blood pressure
  • Insomnia
  • Restlesness
  • Stomach cramps and diarrhea

I can’t emphasize this enough – talk to a health professional if you aren’t sure whether to take Shred JYM or not!

Cost and Value for Money?

Shred JYM costs $30-$40 dollars depending on where you buy it. It’s available on Amazon, GNC, as well as in some phsyical stores.

Due to its wide availability, you can buy Shred JYM no matter if you’re from Australia, Singapore, India, UK, Canada, or pretty much anywhere in the world!

That being said, Shred JYM may be unavailable in some countries, in which case it’s best to check directly with the company to see what they can do about it.

Shred JYM Reviews – What do Others Say?

Shred JYM boasts decent reviews online – especially from bodybuilders who like its aggressive effects. Truth be told, this is the only group of individuals who will probably like this fat burner. If you’re a regular user like many of us, or just looking to gain an edge on your fitness journey, then this will be a too aggressive product for you. Not to mention that it’s not even the most effective fat burner we’ve reviewed.

Still, if you’re curious about other people’s testimonials, you can check them on Amazon as well as Bodybuilding.com. On Bodybuilding.com, it currently has a rating of 8.5/10.

Shred JYM vs SS8 – Which is The Better Fat Burner?

Shred JYM vs SS8 – both produced by Jim Stoppani, but which one is better at burning fat?

Well, SS8 is marketed to be the ‘beefed up’ version of Shred JYM. WIth higher dosages of key ingredients, as well as a few extra key ingredients for fat loss and appetite suppression.

To start off, both Shred JYM and SS8 contain these 5 ingredients:

  • Acetyl-L-Carnitine
  • L-Tyrosine
  • Capsimax® Cayenne Pepper Fruit Extract
  • Green Tea Extract
  • Caffeine

However, SS8 has a higher dose of Green Tea extract and caffeine (550mg, 300mg respectively). Caffeine dosage is too high for my liking, but I appreciate some people love the more aggressive doses. If you’re intolerant to caffeine, though, then 300mg of the drug in SS8 will definitely be too much, so that’s that.

But SS8 has one advantage over Shred JYM, and that is that it doesn’t have the aggressive stimulant Synephrine. But it has another stimulant – Yohimbine and Rauwolfscine. These two combined are even worse than Synephrine. Yohimbine is even banned in some countries. Because of its harsh and uncontrollable energizing effects. Rauwolscine is an understudied compound but preliminary research shows effects that are even more aggressive than Yohimbines’.

Apart from these two, SS8 has a few new extra ingredients that Shred JYM doesn’t have, including:

  • Chromium Picolinate (400mg) – this is a great choice, it helps lower your blood sugars.
  • Grains of Paradise Seed Extract (40mg) – this may aid weight loss via fat burning, but there’s a lack of human research on it.

Overall, SS8 is the more aggressive version of Shred JYM, which raises the potential for side effects even higher! For us, neither one is a good choice if you’re looking for a safe and healthy long-term weight loss solution. But if you don’t mind the stimulants, then it could work for you.

Conclusion to Shred JYM Review

So that bring us to the end of our Shred JYM fat burner review!

The question is, should you get this fat burner or not? Now, if you ask me. It all boils down to your preferences. If you’re a veteran fat burner user and caffeine no longer ‘tickles’ you like it once did, then you won’t mind Shred JYM’s harsh stimulant effects.

But if you’re looking for the most effective fat burner that’s safe to take long-term, then you’ll want to avoid ingredients like Synephrine which can cause a slew of unwanted side effects. You’ll also want to use a fat burner with appetite suppressants and other core fat burning ingredients that Shred JYM unfortunately doesn’t have!

Pros

  • Highly energizing effects
  • Boosts mental focus and cognition
  • Cayenne Pepper is a great thermogenic
  • Decent price

Cons

  • Terrible serving schedule – all 6 capsules are taken at once
  • Missing core ingredients
  • Uses a stimulant combo of caffeine+Synephrine which is known to cause harsh side effects
