Okay, but we’re reviewing a supplement called “Jet Gains” here, right? What do the effects of Betaine have to do with it? Well, it turns out Betaine is also a decent muscle growth stimulator. It not only helps boost muscle strength and hypertrophy but it also lowers stress hormones such as cortisol.
Interestingly, betaine does come with a slight downside. And that is, it lowers your nitric oxide levels, which is a molecule that helps increase muscle pumps by dilating your blood vessels. Lowering NO means your muscles may get weaker and deflated after supplementation. Luckily, this isn’t a permanent side effect!
Sodium is needed by your body for countless functions. Yes, this includes muscle gains and recvoery. See, sodium in combination with water can quickly increase muscle fullness and make you appear bigger than you are. Similar to what creatine does.
However, sodium doesn’t actually have direct muscle building properties. So while it may help give an illusion of looking swole, it also makes you appear less ripped (for some athletes this is an issue).
Also, sodium makes your kidneys work harder. Especially when you pair it with creatine. We assume you’re already eating a good amount of sodium from your daily diet, so adding more in a supplement is quite unnecessary.
Himalayan pink salt would be a better option here because it provides other trace minerals and compounds that your body utilizes to help muscle growth.
Potassium is another electrolyte, along with sodium and magnesium. It is used by your body to manage blood pressure, and help with muscle contractions. It’s a decent ingredient to include in Alpha Gains.
Just keep in mind that you need over 4,000mg of potassium per day for optimal performance. The 75mg in Alpha Lion Jet Gains won’t make that much of a difference!
Astragin is a plant-based compound derived from Astralagus and Ginseng. It’s mainly included in Alpha Lion Jet Gains to help your body digest other ingredients more efficiently. Similar to what black pepper does. However, it won’t necessarily help you build muscle!
Calcium is a mineral that governs nerve signaling, including in your muscles and in your brain. It can also aid bone health.
That said, Alpha Lion Jet Gains has just 25mg of calcium, so it doesn’t do much here except for being a filler ingredient.
Our Thoughts on the Alpha Lion Jet Gains Formula
Overall, Alpha Lion Jet Gains isn’t a terrible formula. It has a few good ingredients that can aid muscle growth and recovery. But we’ve found several issues with it.
For one, the creatine dose is too high. At 5,000mg per serving it’s too much for long-term supplementation. Sodium citrate is ja cheap filler ingredient that puts an additional strain on your kidneys; Himalayan pink salt is more expensive but also safer and more reliable for muscle growth.
Speaking of filler ingredients, there’s quite a few of them in Jet Gains. We feel these should be replaced with something that can actually aid muscle growth; such as Beta-Alanine, L-Glutamine and Pomegranate fruit extract.
What Uses Better Ingredients?
As we said, Alpha Lion Jet Gains contains high doses of creatine, and so shouldn’t be taken long-term. You can use it for a month or two during your bulking phase.
If you have kidney issues, taking Alpha Lion Jet Gains can make them worse. So consider talking with your doct prior to using this supplement if you aren’t sure!
Price and Value for Money?
Alpha Lion Jet Gains costs $39.99 for a container with 25 servings. Not bad, but not that great either. It doesn’t even last a full month. The current best rated post workout formula costs less than this but uses cleaner ingredients.
